Job description
Job title: Team Leader, Children’s Services
Responsible to: Service Manager.

Hours - 16.75
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Service Provision:
Ø Ensure that support staff encourage service users to be fully involved where it is practical in the running of their service.
Ø To provide support and meet the basic needs of the child/young person ensuring that the personal dignity and rights of the individual are respected at all times, using appropriate manual handling methods and equipment.
Ø Work within and promote the Safeguarding Policies of Carlisle Mencap, Cumbria’s Safeguarding Children’s Partnership and Children’s Services.
Ø Motivate and support the staff team.
Ø In conjunction with the service manager, organise shifts and rotas to meet the needs of the service users.
Ø Input into support plans, including personal care issues, social activities and risk assessments.
Ø Plan and oversee the running of children’s outreach services as well as funded activity sessions.
Ø Apply and monitor grants and tenders upon request of service manager.
Ø Uphold the vision and good standing of Carlisle Mencap.
Ø Liaise with families and other agencies as required. Complete initial assessments.
Ø Maintain confidentiality at all times.
Ø Source activities for service users.
Safety and administration
Ø Be willing to undertake training specific to the position, including Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care Adults.
Ø Identify risks and act accordingly.
Ø Maintain records as appropriate and ensure staff read and sign paperwork in the service.
Ø Ensure that support staff assist service users in the safe keeping of their money and ensure budgets are kept to.
General
Ø To participate in relevant training to update and enhance knowledge base.
Ø To participate with the team, multidisciplinary team and other relevant individuals in working in a person-centred way.
Ø To participate in 1:1 supervision and appraisal with your supervisor in accordance with your agreed individual contract.
Ø Take part in the supervision of members of the staff team and appraisals.
Ø Attend and chair reviews and meetings as appropriate.
Ø Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be required. This may include transfer to another location.
Ø To take part in the On Call system for out of hours.
Ø Deputise for the manager when they are absent.
Ø Ensure open communication between staff, management and office staff.

Qualifications
Essential
Willingness to work towards relevant training and qualifications relevant to your job role.
Care Certificate
Desirable
NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or other qualification related to the role.
Experience
Essential
Awareness of Person-Centred Planning principles.
Previous experience of working with people with learning disabilities in a care setting.
Desirable
Experience of supervising staff
Ability to manage in a variety of situations
Attitude and Personal Attributes
Essential
An open and approachable attitude.
Able to work flexibly including evenings, weekends.
Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team. Ability to lead a team
